Legendary rock drummer Cozy Powell was killed in a car crash on April 5, 1998, near Bristol England. He was 50 years old.
Powell was born Colin Trevor Flooks on December 29, 1947, in Cinderford, Gloucestershire. He began playing drums at the age of 13 and soon developed a reputation as one of the most talented young drummers in England.
In 1968, Powell joined the Jeff Beck Group, and he went on to play with a number of other major rock bands, including Rainbow, Black Sabbath and Peter Green. He was also a session musician, and he played on albums by artists such as Roger Daltrey, Paul McCartney and Elton John.
Powell was known for his powerful and precise drumming style. He was considered one of the best rock drummers of his generation, and he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016.
